Untouched Beauty - Northern Spain On A Budget 🇪🇸
Nothing beats finding an untouched gem whilst travelling, am I right?
Well, I'm willing to share with you the secrets that the Galicia region of North-West Spain has to offer.
Home to Estrella, a decent bottle of red and pincho's this could be the long awaited weekend away you are searching for.
Whilst the weather is not as scorching as Southern Spain the temperature is still a few degrees warmer than the UK with more days of sunshine and a chance to wear your Salty Bottom Swim, win win!
On a side note, make sure to download google translate as this region of Spain typically do not speak much English.
Getting There
Flights go fairly regularly from London Gatwick throughout the year to key Airport Santiago–Rosalía de Castro. If you wish to visit in the down season (October - March) you might find the flights only operate once or twice a week.
Flight prices can dip to as little as £75 per person return trip in the month of September when the weather is still very pleasant. *packs favourite bikini*
Where To Stay
With many local towns around the region there are a number of options to choose from. The list of towns below are the most common to stay at;
Santiago De Compostella - The capital of Galicia and famous for the pilgrimage (expect to see walkers by the dozen!) this old town is one of the most urban beautiful areas of Spain with its Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque buildings including the cathederal of Santiago De Compostella.
Even if you don't like history you will love what this little town has to offer with plenty of boutique shops, bars and restaurants.
A Coruña - The most populated city of Galicia. If you like more buzz on your vacays than this is the place for you. Surrounded by beaches and a beautiful old fishing port this town ticks all the boxes and means you can finally put your best swimwear on whilst enjoying your favourite Spanish ice cream along the promenade!
Ferrol - If you are seeking more solitude on your trip away then the town of Ferrol could fill you with the peace and tranquility you might be searching for! Experience the most local cuisine by hoping from one quaint local bar to another for a cheeky little bevvy and you might even get a free pincho (bar snack) or two!
What To Do
No matter where you are staying in Galicia we'd recommend renting a car as things are spread out and the roads are very quiet and easy to navigate.
No matter where you are staying here is a list of top places to visit on your short trip;
- Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
- Catch a wave and go surfing along the coast of one of these hot spots
